First Celebrity Crush? Andy Griffith

Andy Griffith

My first crush, Andy Griffith, is dead.

We didn’t have reliable television growing up, a circumstance caused by living in a valley so steep regular television waves couldn’t muster the challenge, even with the most imposing of rabbit ears.

But if the wind was blowing right and there weren’t any clouds in the sky I could watch Matlock after school. So I did, any time I could.

I know Andy Griffith is well-known for his role regulating Mayberry on the Andy Griffith Show, but I fell in love with him in Matlock.

His portrayal of America, justice, and the characteristics of a gentleman molded my idea of the country. His real-life spirituality, kindness, humor, and consistency influenced my belief that celebrities don’t have to act like drunken donkeys.

{Sigh} love me some Andy Griffith!

He was classy. (And, now that I think of it, I think my crush on Andy Griffith may have prepped me for my crushes on Lute Olson and Sean Connery… I have a thing for the older dudes with that facial structure. I can’t help it.)

I’ll miss Andy’s Mayberry… even knowing I can find it on Netflix. It just won’t be the same.

Do you have a favorite Andy Griffith memory?
