Dreaming of an Awful Boy

“Mommy, can I tell you something?”

“Sure, what’s up?”

“I had a bad dream about coyotes and javelina and ants and bugs and they took their claw-y claws and poked me in the eye and pulled all my eyebrows out and I looked like an awful boy.”

Dos is in a new season of dreams and anxiety at night. Hard to say if it’s because she’s stalling about going to sleep or genuinely scared. But this was tonight’s offering and I couldn’t help but share.

What’s the strangest dream you’ve had?

When I was little (between the first and fourth grade) I had a recurring dream/nightmare that these guys in masks would break into our house through the window panels lining our side door (which was the only door we really used), and then would take stuff (and do other things I’m sure), but never really hurt us. My family and I would always be in one room upstairs hiding, but we were never touched. And my biggest concern was they would take a small basket filled with change–at least that is the one thing I remember. As well as a big black tank thing with steam coming out of it sitting between our house and driveway. Not weird like Dos’, but weird!
