Advice For My Teen Daughters

Every once in awhile I stumble upon a piece of writing so beautiful, so true, I throw my clenched fists up into the air and howl, “Why couldn’t I have written this? It… it… it is so… fantastic!”

Then I give myself a stern talking to about the dangers of covetousness and try to make up for my flash of jealousy by sharing the perfection with others with abandon.

That’s what I’m going to do tonight. Share with abandon… and I really, really hope you read to the end because, well, it’s fantastic.

10 Things I Want to Tell Teenage Girls by Kate Elizabeth Conner

1.  If you choose to wear shirts that show off your boobs, you will attract boys. To be more specific, you will attract the kind of boys that like to look down girls’ shirts.  If you want to date a guy who likes to look at other girls’ boobs and chase skirts, then great job; keep it up.  If you don’t want to date a guy who ogles at the breasts of other women, then maybe you should stop offering your own breasts up for the ogling.  All attention is not equal.  You think you want attention, but you don’t.  You want respect.  All attention is not equal.
